He started out in construction at an early age and is joined by his brothers Tom and Richard and his nephew Charles in the family business. He contributes to This Old House Magazine as well as other publications. Silva was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2012 for Outstanding Special Class Series for Ask This Old House.
